23 Life Lessons from Lauren Conrad

As a teenager I was obsessed with Laguna Beach and The Hills. I always liked Lauren Conrad, but she didn't really strike me as the most intelligent person from the get go. Remember when she was grounded for getting bad grades in school? How about when she stayed with bad boy Jason Wahler after she caught him with another girl? Season after season however, I began to notice a change in her character. Lauren came into herself and grew up to be a hardworking woman with goals, grace and plenty of intelligence. Many of Lauren's quotes from interviews and past episodes of The Hills are wise words that I will always carry with me. Here are a few times when Lauren Conrad got life just right.

1. Think positive

2. When it comes to friends, look for quality over quantity

15 Super Fetch 'Mean Girls' Products

Anyone from my generation knows that it's basically customary to quote Mean Girls in everyday conversations. Tina Fey's hilarious script was extremely influential to millennials, and continues to sneak it's way into our lives. In case quoting the movie isn't enough for you, I've compiled a list of super fetch Mean Girls items to add to your online shopping lists.

As Regina George would say: Get in loser, we're going shopping.

8 Spots to Get a Healthy Meal in Toronto

Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake, Glory Hole Donuts, Sweet Jesus - these are just a few of many tempting treats Toronto has to offer. It may seem unbelievable at times, but there are just as many healthy options out there as there are unhealthy ones. As much as I'm always looking for the latest dessert fad, I get equally excited when I discover a new food that is healthy, as well as delicious. Most of these spots are vegan/vegetarian friendly, but there are a few clean options for meat lovers included on the list. The best part is that several of these establishments offer delivery through Foodora, meaning healthy options are now just as accessible as ordering a pizza. The following are my go-to spots when I need a healthy meal on the go.

1. The Grow-Op
222 Ossington Avenue,
Try: The Peanut Butter Acai Bowl - the peanut butter crunch will trick you into thinking you're eating a dessert instead of breakfast.

Spring Chick Lit 2016

When I read, I pick up everything from extensive biographies to the latest Nicholas Sparks novel. No matter how much I try to stick to 'Heather's Picks' at Indigo, a part of me will always need some girly chick lit on my reading repertoire. I could give you a list of today's bestsellers by the most accomplished writers, but for today's post, let's leave the heavy reads with our winter weight and keep it light for spring. I know I'm not the only one who wants to indulge in literary junk food every other read, so therefore I've decided to share some of my favourite chick lit I've read over the last few months.

I Had a Nice Time (and other lies) by The Betches

The first book on this list is also my latest and most anticipated spring read. A must-have for fans of the website, Betches Love This. Since I got it fresh off the shelf today, I would obviously be lying if I said I'd read it cover to cover. However, there are some books you know you will love before you even pick them up, and for me this is one of them. If the successor to Nice is Just a Place in France is half as entertaining, then we are in for a treat. The ideal book to bring with you while you get your tan on in this bright, sunny weather.

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites

Lately I've been loving the recipes from Kristin Cavallari's new book, Balancing in Heels. I've been so into them that I decided to download her app to get more healthy meal ideas - and boy am I ever glad I did! A few days ago I decided to try making the Buffalo Cauliflower recipe she posted, and it was even more delicious than I had anticipated. I changed a couple things from Kristin's recipe, but I'm sure big of our versions produced similar results. This recipe is a perfect healthy option for all of those BBQs that are about to come around this spring and summer.
(These guys were devoured in under 24 hours, and unfortunately this is the only picture I had of them)

Brow Products for Beginners

When I was in middle school, I had my eyebrows waxed for the first time by a lady named Anastasia in Beverly Hills. Little did I know that she would become the go-to brow expert ten years later. At the time I had my brows groomed by Anastasia, a lot of her products still weren't available in Canada. Nowadays, we are lucky enough to have all of her tools and tricks of the trade at our fingertips, be it via Sephora or online tutorials.

A perfect brow can make a world or a difference. When brows are groomed and filled in they will help frame your face and enhance features that are already there. I've used almost all of Anastasia's products for long enough to know that hers are the best in the business. There are dupes out there, and similar products by other brands, but when it comes to brows, Anastasia is my ride or die girl. The following is a guide to help introduduce you to her products, and pick the ones best suited to your brows.

Unless specified, all of the following products are available at Sephora (

Green Banana Muffins

Normally when I post a recipe, it is something I've come up with on my own or adapted from a recipe I've come across online. I like to play around in the kitchen, but every so often I come across a delicious recipe that I feel needs no altering whatsoever. I discovered these muffins while browsing through Kristen Cavallari's new book, Balancing in Heels, in Indigo. Almost immediately, I ran home to try it out and was even more pleased with the result than I had anticipated. As someone who needs to make sure I get enough iron and green veggies, this recipe is perfect. It may not be a substitute for a salad, but these muffins will give you a kick of green, as well as satisfy your sweet tooth.

The first time I made these, I followed the recipe exactly as written. The second time I used a mix of kale and spinach for the greens, and a mix of honey and maple syrup instead of just the maple syrup. This is a recipe that you can feel free to play around with.

Our Love Story

People always ask me how I met Sean, my boyfriend. If they're seeking a way that they too can meet a great guy, then our story probably won't be too helpful. If they are looking for a story that will make them believe in love at first sight, then ours is the perfect fit.

Sean and I met last April outside of the club Citizen, over on King and Brant. I was saying goodbye to a few friends of mine, when I noticed two of my girlfriends were talking to a really hot guy. I walked over, but instead of marching up and introducing myself I kind of just hid behind my friends. The hot guy (who was Sean, in case you didn't already guess) noticed me, and picked me out from behind my friends. "You're Lebanese," he stated. The fact that he recognized my nationality was extremely impressive, never mind that he revealed his Lebanese roots as well. At that point I hadn't come across many Lebanese people my age in Toronto, let alone a cute Lebanese guy. Suffice to say, I was excited about him from the first second.

10 Places to Find Lavender Goodies in Toronto

Every season has a few signature foods that we all look forward to each year. With pumpkin spice lattes and gingerbread taking over autumn and winter, what does that mean for flavoured goodies once spring comes around? There are a few scents and flavours one could associate with spring, but one that should be near the top of everyone's list is lavender. It can be found in drinks and desserts, as well as home supplies, such as soaps and candles. Not only is it a calming and refreshing plant, it also has regal roots. Rumour has it that Cleopatra used lavender as a fragrance to attract Julius Caesar, while Marie Antoinette decorated her palace with lavender for its scent. Queen Elizabeth I demanded fresh lavender every day, and used it for tea and perfume. After hunting around the city for lavender flavoured treats, I came across a wide array of products from local hot spots. Whether you're working in the Path, or hanging out in Kensington Market, you too can live like a royal while exploring downtown Toronto this spring.

How-to Stay Warm During an Outdoor Photoshoot

I can't believe how cold the weather grew in just a single week. A couple weekends ago, I stood outside for hours during a photoshoot with nothing but a sweater and light jacket to keep myself warm. Boy, how things change so quickly! When photographer Jess Jiang and I ventured over to Philosopher's Walk for our shoot, I should have counted my blessings that it wasn't as cold then as it is now. From Jess, I learned many photography tricks, and I was impressed to discover that she was a self-taught photographer. All of the pictures you will see in this post were taken by her. You can check out more of her work over on her website:

As a beginner in front of the camera, I still have a lot to learn. I'm not striving to become a model, but as a blogger it's crucial to incorporate professional pictures into my site as much as I can. Previously, I had done several indoor photoshoots, but shooting outside was entirely different. Here are some tips I learned when it comes to shooting outside:

1. Pack layers

If it hadn't been for my leather and winter jackets that I layered over top of my outfit for a few shots, I would have been significantly colder. It's important to stay warm as long as you can - the longer you are out there, the more shots you will get.

2. Accessorize

Whether you're a fashion blogger, model or just doing a photoshoot for fun, you can't go wrong with accessories. The gloves, hats and scarves I brought along not only helped switch up the shots a bit, they also worked as a barrier against the cold winds that were coming and going that afternoon.

3. Start with the lightest outfit

In the first round of shots we took I wore only my white sweater. It had yet to grow too cold or windy, so it made most sense to start off light and add layers as we went. It would have been a lot more difficult to shoot in just a sweater once the weather got worse.

4. Take a break

In order to avoid turning blue, go inside to warm up. Once my toes started to freeze up, we stepped into Starbucks for a quick tea break. If you take too long you could miss out on prime lighting, but a ten minute break is sufficient enough to to recuperate.

5. Curl up

When you've bundled up as much as you can and you're still a little chilly, change up your poses. Crouch down and move around in order to make the most of your own body heat. We got some great shots out of doing this that helped add variety to the shoot. The more you move, the warmer you'll be.

Even on the coldest of days, if you pay attention to your body and get creative, you will find it both easy and fun to shoot outdoors. We had a great time and can't wait to do it again. Thanks to Jess for a successful first shoot together!

What do you do to stay warm when you have to be outside for a long time? Comment below with your suggestions!

With love,

Banana-Chocolate Chip-PB Muffins

I am a huge fan of banana mixed with chocolate. I am also a huge fan of banana mixed with peanut butter. In the past, I've tried out recipes that utilize both combinations, but never all three ingredients. This idea came to me spur of the moment, when another recipe of mine didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to. I had to come up with something delicious and creative on the spot, while also making do with the ingredients I had at home. I adapted and combined two recipes in order to make a new creation: a banana chocolate chip muffin with a peanut butter filling in the middle. Aside from people who are allergic to nuts, or those who hate banana, this recipe will be a guaranteed hit with any crowd.
